On Tuesday, May 31st  Carol Coffey of the Community Foundation of Whistler presented a $13000 cheque to the Rotary Club of Whistler. The funds will be used for the 2016 portion of the Don McLaurin Sign Project. Carol is seen above presenting the cheque to Club Representative Peter Ackhurst.

The purpose of the Don MacLaurin Sign Project is to rejuvenate the signs along the trails of the Whistler Interpretive Forest;  a moderate, delightful 2-3 hour loop along the Cheakamus river  just south of Whistler near the Cheakamus Crossing neighborhood. It is basically a coniferous forest, with spruce, and huge Douglas Fir and was a favorite of the Rotary Club of Whistler's Don MacLaurin.

The Rotary Club of Whistler thanks the Community Foundation of Whistler for the support and for the chance to honor Don MacLaurin. His presence and knowledge are very much missed at our club.

Carol told us about the Community Foundation's Vital Signs Survey which is an effort to guage the pulse of the community.  They are gathering data and our perception about 12 areas of interest:

  • Health and wellness
  • Housing
  • Gap between the rich and the poor
  • Work
  • Getting started in the community
  • Learning
  • Getting around
  • Environment
  • Arts & culture
  • Belonging & leadership
  • Safety
  • Sports & recreation
The survey is open until June 10th.  If you have not already completed the survey go to take-the-vital-signs-survey site for more information and to take the survey.  Results will be published this fall.
