Mar. 09, 2021
Thank you all for participating in last week's Rotary Club of Whistler Spirits Night in partnership with Montis Distilling. Not only was it a lot of fun, we also raised about $1,700 for the WCSS delivery truck refrigeration program. We are very close to our goal of $10,000 We are going to try this one more time, this time with a Martini focus. Very similar evening to Spirits Night. We are making a couple of changes. We will only be making/drinking 3 drinks, 2 Gin and 1 Vodka Martini. (4 drinks in 80 minutes was a bit much for me last time) We are also spreading out the time between Dani's bartending instruction to give more time to enjoy each creation. We are going to experiment with virtual "Chat Lounges". Between drinks you can move around to the various virtual Lounges, providing more opportunity to socialize. We can also set up named Lounges where you can invite your friends that are participating. i.e I might have one of the Lounges named Ken Martin and anyone can drop in and experience your martini with me and whoever is in the Lounge at the time. Have your own Lounge if you see fit.
Tuesday March 9th at 7PM. $30 per registrant gets you three 2 ounce bottles and a raffle ticket for more great wine and spirits. Martini making ingredient lists and suggested appies will be provided. Most importantly you get another great Dani bartending performance. (no Silent Auction this time)
Come join us again and get your friends out for a very social virtual get together in the Chat Lounges.
Register at https://tinyurl.com/March-Martini-Madness
See you March 9th.

MAC Project - "Bikes in Container for International Destination"
Apr. 06, 2021
Kathy White - Chair of Whistler MAC Board, and on behalf of our 55+ membership – I’m happy to share an outline of our activities and future project ideas. We are vibrant group of over 200 members, engaged and often volunteering in Whistler, while we enjoy “aging in place”. We are all an important part of the social fabric and provide economic benefit often through municipal taxes, also by supporting local restaurants, shops & services. MAC is hopeful to bring forward the idea of “donate a bike” project with the Rotary members and other community organizations. Similar to the previous project by Pat Montanihttps://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/article-pat-montani-and-bicycles-for-humanity- provide-transport-to-health-care/ |

Amorak Society Update
May 11, 2021
A followup on our clubs sponsorship of the Amorak Society work in Bangledish. Dr. Tanyss Munro has devoted her life, with her husband, best-selling author Gem Munro, to improving educational opportunities for vulnerable children and youth around the world. In Canada, they designed effective, new approaches to overcome chronic disadvantages faced by troubled indigenous communities through education. This pursuit took her from Canada's far north as Director of Education, to senior advisor for regional Indigenous governments, to Parliament Hill as senior advisor to Ministers of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada. Tanyss and Gem founded Amarok Society in response to the still-ongoing education crisis where one in three children is growing up illiterate. Clearly a novel approach was needed – and they opened their first novel school in 2006. What binds the overlooked Indigenous populations and the illiterate, destitute women in mega-city slums, is the Munros conviction that these dismissed populations are as capable as anyone in the world of doing the impossible. For their work, they were recipients of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals. |

She has a deep passion for social change and connecting with people across sectors to build a better future for our communities. Christianne sits on the Advisory Board of the Salish Sea Institute and is a Founding Board Director and President of The Elbow Theatre Society. In tonight's talk, you'll hear about the work of regional marine conservation organization Georgia Strait Alliance. For more than 30 years, GSA has tackled threats to the region - from pulp pollution to open net cage salmon farms, from sewage pollution to climate change - using a model of basing solutions on science, collaboration, and community engagement. The focus of the talk will be on the threats of climate change to our region and some innovative ways GSA is working to gain bold and accountable policies from all levels of government. You'll also hear about latest efforts to protect Southern Resident orcas and our work with the recreational boating community.

Peace Conversation and Cops For Cancer
Jun. 01, 2021
Below is the link and description for my Cops for Cancer fundraiser. Is there anything else I should be mentioning?
My name is Jess Mucha and I have been an RCMP officer in Whistler for 2 years. This year I have joined 39 other officers from various departments and detachments in the lower mainland to support the Canadian Cancer Society Program - Cops for Cancer. Cops for Cancer is a road cycling tour that will start on September 20th. The team will cycle approximately 100 kilometres a day for 5 days. Before the tour, we are required to do extensive training as well as fundraise a minimum of $4000 each. I began my fundraising mid March and I have already raised $4,870.99. I do not have a set fundraising goal but I would like to raise quite a bit more before the tour. This year Covid 19 has definitely made things quite a bit more difficult and has put restraints on certain fundraising opportunities. Despite the restrictions I am impressed with the amount I have raised thus far. The fundraisers I have done so far :
I have also received funds through social media outreach and bottle donations. Planned fundraisers to happen within the next 3 months:
Cops for Cancer funds go towards research and support for children with cancer in Canada.

Paint & Wine Bear with Me Virtual Event
Jun. 15, 2021
Please join us for what we hope will be our last fully zoom social and fundraising event.
Don't forget to hit submit at the end of answering all the sections on the registration page!
Why are we doing this? Firstly - to have fun! But also to raise some funds to help us build the Rotary Viewing Platform along the new section of the Valley Trail along the wetlands between Alta Lake Road and Function. We hope to acquire most of our needs by donation but will need funds for some purchases. We have many willing hands itching to get started on this and complete it this summer.
The plan for the evening-
6.30 logon opens.
We hope you enjoy your wine throughout the evening.
6.45 Lorne will talk to us about the Pentage wines that are recommended for the evening and which you are able to purchase at a discount price courtesy of Whistler Liquor Store at Rainbow.
Pentage is a boutique farm-gate winery nestled on 35 acres overlooking Skaha Lake in Penticton. Julie and Paul have 2 vineyards that are hand tended and picked to produce top-quality grapes that are essential in the creation of hand-crafted, limited-release world-class wines. So far I have tried the Gamay Noir and the Pinot Gris and they are excellent.
7.00 pm the painting session begins. Cary from Paintertainmentwill lead us in creating a wonderful (we hope it turns out wonderful) painting of a Whistler Rotary Bear.
Cary& Paulo together are the creative force behind PAINTERTAINMENT. They started out creating the most fabulous walking art for large events. With Covid, they have diversified and one of their new activities has been online painting lessons. The wonderful paintings by Ken Martin of their family pets are a testament to their skill in teaching, and of course Ken's hidden talent.
8.45ish! We have our Raffle with lots of great prizes as always, followed by a Live Auction. We will send you info about the auction items as we gather them.
I look forward to joining with lots of you to create my special Rotary Bear and have fun!
Gill Forester
